ABOUT US

“Bangkok Noi Walks” is a project originally conceptualized by Asst. Prof. Dr. Analiza Perez-Amurao and Mr. George T. Amurao. They prepared a proposal aimed at developing the potential of the Bangkok Noi community as a cultural and tourism site by establishing a walking tour that would highlight the hitherto little-known religious and cultural gems of this neighborhood. Although Mr. Amurao eventually had to leave the project for other commitments, several landmark features of this project remain to be his ideas.

This project became possible as well through the help of its consultants, namely, Asst. Prof. Dr. Tiamsoon Sirisrisak, Thai history and culture expert, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sompong Amnuay-Ngerntra, community-based and cultural tourism expert, Ms. Mariejoy San Buenaventura, writer, and Ms. Jaruwan Duangkhamchan, research assistant.

Likewise, this project would not have been possible without the help of MUIC students who are mostly from the Intercultural Studies and Languages Program, namely, Ms. Nicha Tamthong, lead student-research assistant, Ms. Sirima Sangnark, Ms. Oranong Mongkonjaroenkij, Mr. Pachara Charoensilpsakul, and Artorn Sriruya.

It is hoped that by shining the spotlight on the community’s historical and cultural value, local residents will be given the opportunity to have an additional source of livelihood.

This project was initiated by Mahidol University-Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital with funding support from the Thai Health Foundation and the active participation of Mahidol University International College.
